Sunil Nimawat Before Lockdown

We often forget that there are other artists too, perhaps more talented, who deserve much more acclaim. But they don't command that attention, because they are the ones who play in the shadows.

Meet one of such artist, Sunil Rameshchandra Nimavat, a Tabla-Vaadak from Rajkot, who found himself in a tough situation in the wake of the global lockdown brought on by the CoVid-19 pandemic crisis.

Sunil has been working in the music business for over 15 years. Sunil is a devotional music specialist. On a normal day, you would often find him playing his tabla in a Bhajan Sangeet Sandhya (prayer meets) or a Santvani event, totally immersed in his craft; like a Yogi deep in his meditation.

In a regular month, the tabla-vadak used to be engaged in 10-12 events on average, which served a satisfactory and steady source of income.

Sunil has a family of five to support, including his two year old daughter. To add to his troubles, his father was diagnosed with cancer in April, during the peak of coronavirus infections.

I have had several mental breakdowns ever since this situation has erupted. But every time I look at the faces of my family members, and I think "l can't afford to lose hope. I have to take care of my family."
